Korean Landscapes

The documentation of Korea’s cultural heritage is by no means narrow-minded objects a postmodern subject. What I am trying to express is the will to capture the objects that we encounter in our daily lives – objects that are so familiar that they pass by us in a flash – with new eyes through the eyes of a photographer. Based on “real view” landscape painting, rather than a reproduction of the landscape, I tried to capture the inner changes of the Korean mountain streams and my breathing accordingly.

Documenting our cultural heritage is an essential responsibility of photographers, a calling of the times, and a record of history.

한국의 문화유산 기록은 결코 포스트모던 시대의 사시적(斜視的) 대상이 아니다. 내가 표현하고자 하는 것은 일상성 속에서 만나는 -너무나 익숙하여 예사롭게 스쳐 지나는-대상을 사진가의 시각으로 새로운 눈으로 담아보고자 하는 의지의 표현이다. 풍경의 재현이 아닌, 진경산수(眞景山水)를 바탕으로 한국 산천의 내밀한 변화, 그에 따라 호흡이 달라지는 나의 내면을 담으려 했다.

우리 문화유산 기록은 사진가가 꼭 해야 할 책무이며 시대의 소명이며 역사의 기록이기 때문이다.
