Mahala Gypsy Village

The village is located in Osh, the second largest city of Kyrgyzstan.
The village is home to a settlement of Gypsies, who are not recognized as citizens by society because they are not an ethnic group in Kyrgyzstan.
The locals say that they live by begging, but when I met them and talked to them, I found out that less than 5% of them live by begging. One day, an elderly woman asked me while I was filming.
“Can you give us a job, our life is so difficult.”
I couldn’t answer that question.
Everyone would have been in the same position.
After returning home and thinking about it, I realized that I wanted to record their history and give them the gift of photography, albeit not in cash. There was no record of their lives history until now.

마을은 키르키스스탄의 제2도시인 오쉬에 자리잡고 있는 마을이다.
이 마을은 집사들이 정착해서 살고 있고 키르키스스탄의 인종이 아니기 때문에 사회에서 인정받지 못하고 삶을 이어가고 있다.
현지 시민들은 이들이 구걸을 해서 살고 있다고 했지만 정작 이들을 직접 만나서 이야기를 나누어보면 구걸하는 이는 5%미만이라고 한다. 하루는 한 할머니가 촬영을 하고 있는 나에게
” 너 우리에게 일을 줄 수 있냐 우리 사는게 너무 어려워서 그래”
그 질문에 답을 할 수가 없었다. 누구나 같은 입장이었을 것이다. 집으로 돌아와 고민 끝에 이들의 역사라도 기록해보자는 생각이 들었고, 현물은 아니지만 사진이라는 선물을 하고자 한다. 지금까지 이들의 삶의 역사는 없었기에.
